It's not uncommon for back-to-college moms to feel out of touch with the academic world that they were once in. They may feel apprehensive about school, the environment and tasks that come with school life. However, there are a number of things that moms can do before making the step towards continuing their education.

Moms are commonly gifted with patience and perseverance honed by long hours of listening to or looking after their children. Mothers are special, and it's no surprise why special scholarships, grants, and loans are offered for them.
Below are some practical pointers on how to get through and enjoy school life:
With all the duties and responsibilities moms undertake, it is not surprising that most moms are a little bit behind when it comes to computers. Nowadays, computers and school practically go hand in hand. They are indispensable tools used by practically every student and it is necessary for moms to brush up on their computer skills before they start school again. On a happier note, computers have become more and more user friendly and cheaper to purchase. Moms will find it easier to once again get in touch with or discover their "techie" side. At the very least, moms should make an effort to familiarize themselves with word-processing and presentation-making programs.
You might want to spend some time checking on your subject requirements and prerequisites and looking for tools that could help you. If you have an accounting subject, free and easy-to-use accounting software can be accessed online. Also, if you have culinary classes, you might want to find some online language translators for your French terminologies or online health-related encyclopedias for your dietetics and nutrition lessons.
Wondering if you will fit in? Don't even worry about it. Remember those old announcements that tickled your fancy back when you were in high school? You might just find them posted on college walls and community boards - from flee markets that sell vintage clothing to band gigs entitled "Blast from the Past." Discover new things out of your old time favorites. Who knows what or who you might just bump into?
Universities have just gotten bigger throughout the years with new buildings and infrastructures. It would be best to locate where your classes will be to give yourself an idea on how much time you'll need to get from one place to another. Check your school's homepage and click on their online-visual tour or map if available. However, if you can't find it, you might just have to go back to the basics. Use a printed map which is most likely available in the school store.
Sometimes you may feel that having twenty-four hours in a day is just not enough. Sadly, this is something we can't change. However, there is a thing called "TIME MANAGEMENT." Breaking down your tasks into chunks and bits will help you maximize your time. Learn how to prioritize. Do the major tasks firsts to get them out of the way. These will make your day less cramped and hectic.
All parents want the best for their kids even though they may not be vocal about it. Children always come first. However, mothers too have their own ambitions and they deserve the chance to achieve them. Moms deserve the opportunity to finish a degree and get the best life has to offer them. Regardless of any financial instability that mothers are faced with, there are ways to find sources to support their education.
Scholarships4Moms offers this chance to mothers. Once you register for our scholarship, you're one step closer to having the financial boost to further your education.
I am a single 50++ mom unemployed and going back to school for training in billing and coding. I'm looking for a position in the hospital field during administrative work until I can pursue a position in billing and coding. It is rough but I am trying my best to keep hope alive. I am trying to pay mortgage, educate myself for a new and secure position. I have a daughter in college where I hope will continue on keeping the excellent grades and hope to get future money to pay for her education. I am trying to work on getting a grant to pay off my education soon. my training will end in august 2010 and I will graduated in October. I just started in June 2009, but I am trying to find free grant money to pay off my education after I am finished or at least a head start of a few thousand. I think this is a good way of networking as well.
I am an over 60 year old fulltime working mom of an 18 year old physically and mentally challenged son. I am interested in finding an online course for medical billing and coding courses. Any information on grant monies that are available would be greatly appreciated.
I have been trying for your scholarship...if I can't come up with the rest of the money for my LVN program by May 26, me and several others will be dismissed from the program....WE NEED HELP! Anyone out there with info please let us know! I cant get a loan, (no job currently, poor credit) and am starting to think I may have to give up on my dream.
I am very excited about going back to school. I Chose to be a mom first, student later. I am 34 yrs old mother of three. This fall I will be working full time, and attending school in the evening. Finances are making it difficult to attend school full time. If there really is some help for moms to attend school, that would be great! Thanks!
I am 60+ years old and I am a retired LVN. I am currently enrolled in Axia online but I am a grandmother raising two adopted children. My husband works only part time and I am a black woman who is passionate about getting a degree in nursing if I had a scholarship to help me with expenses. If anyone can help show me the way to find this information. THANKS!
Hi. I am a mother of 7 children. I had six children when I graduated with my Bachelor's degree in Speech Language and Hearing Science, at Lehman College in June 2005. I began my Master's degree in the Spring semester of 2006, but dropped out because I was pregnant and gained custody of my newborn niece. Stuff just got really hectic and I did not want to compromise my academic standing by not being able to do the work I was required to do. Currently I work with 2 part-time jobs. I really love both because of the flexibility, the things I learn, and the people I work with. Sadly though I do it to pay the bills. I would love to go back to school to earn my master's degree so that I can progress to a level of financial independence and self satisfaction.
I am a 50+ year old black woman who finds herself not just wanting a college degree but needing one desperately. I have lots of experience, but no degree. Any lead or help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
