Online Colleges and Distance Learning :
A Mom's Online College Primer

College can seem daunting for moms -- not just the workload, but the time involved balancing family and classes. Who has time to feed the kids, do homework, and commute to class, let alone fill out scholarships for moms or government school loans applications?

That's where online colleges come in. While some still have negative stereotypes of online college, the truth is that there are many highly accredited and respected online colleges with full coursework and applicable college scholarships and grants for moms.

For moms, online college helps out in two critical areas: Time and Money.

Save Time with Distance Learning

Obviously, the ability to take classes at one's leisure is a huge advantage. Imagine doing coursework at your convenience, whether it's after bedtime or while waiting for the dentist to finish up with your child. Also, you'll no longer waste time looking for parking or sitting at traffic lights on your way to class. With online college, you can sneak in coursework whenever the moment is convenient: in the morning when the kids leave for school or in the evening when they've settled down for bed.

Save Money with Online Colleges

While online colleges may have similar per-unit costs (depending on the institutions you're comparing), the overall cost savings comes indirectly from flexibility. Most online colleges charge per credit, so you can take the appropriate amount of classes for your budget, spacing costs out so that it never gets overwhelming (don't forget those college scholarships and grants for moms or government school loans). This flexibility also means you can keep working, and you'll save on tangential costs (AKA the things that college grants and scholarships for moms don't cover) of a brick-and-mortar university: transportation, parking, etc.

What are the drawbacks of online colleges and distance learning?

Obviously, you lack that face-to-face interaction with professors and classmates that can expedite learning. Communication takes place via email and phone, which means there may be short delays in responses. However, most course-related topics have online forums dedicated to the subject. Even logistical issues, such as the best places to get government school loans or scholarships for moms, have their online forums, providing you with a whole community that shares and learns from each other.

With so many benefits, online college is a perfect fit for just about every mom. Check online for resources about different programs and degrees, along with college grants and scholarships for moms. Chances are you'll find the right combination to get that advanced degree you've always wanted.

Our $10,000 scholarship can be applied toward online courses, books, campus classes, even debt.
