Educational Scholarships for Moms

Resources in getting educational scholarships for moms are spreading all over the internet. There are Government Grants, State Grants, or Private Foundation Grants, and every institution has its own criteria in assisting financial needs for prospective students.

Free education through scholarships

  • Explore different programs. Identify the group which would most likely consider your application. The best place to check for a list of institutions that give free scholarships would be at an established college, university or the local city hall.

  • Getting scholarships is not as easy as it sounds. It requires hard work and patience. Scouting for scholarships and filling out forms is only the tip of the iceberg. There is a lot of work to be done beyond that. Admission essays or videos, interviews, and written exams are only a few of the possible things that applicants may be required to fulfill. In other words, both time and effort are necessary. Thus, it is wise to think and plan ahead to give ample time for preparation.

  • Organize your qualifications and compile your data based on their requirements.

Common prerequisites or requirements

  • Residency
  • Citizens are given priority for Government and State Scholarships. This preference could be due to the desire of the government to give back assistance to the community from where taxes were collected.

On the other hand, international institutions (schools or non-government organizations) sometimes offer free scholarships and grants for college, masters or doctorate degrees to students of different nationalities. Also, there are exchange programs that aim to promote inter-cultural awareness that is open to everyone.

If the applicant is not a resident of the country he or she is applying for, he or she should inquire about visa requirements.

  • Age
  • Most government and non-government agencies offer college loans and scholarships to people aged 45 years and below.

  • Educational Attainment
  • This criterion varies depending on the program being applied for.

  • Financial Capacity
  • There are certain agencies that prefer giving grants to individuals with financial difficulties. However, one has to remember that educational and personal attainments still weigh more.

  • Personal Accomplishments
  • Research papers, publications, community involvement, and the like would most likely boost one's application.

Things to remember when applying

  • Be direct when writing your essays
  • Highlight on your strengths and do not dwell on your weaknesses
  • Be humble; acknowledge failures in the past when interviewed and be ready to state your answers as briefly and clearly as possible

I am a part-time working mom of a son who is diabetic. My husband works full time and I also have a stepdaughter. Money is tight and we have to spend quite a bit for our son for his medication. I want to further my education to better my family and myself but it won't be possible without a financial aid.

I am 34 years old and started college Feb.2008 I have two young daughters and I just recently lost my job. I won't graduate until Feb. 2010 and I was searching for any help that would lower the cost for the time I am not working. I have received The Adult learner Scholarship last year and reapplied for this year but it will not be enough. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm enrolled at Kaplan University and in my third quarter. I'm a single mother of two and a stay at home mom with a two year old.I receive loans and some grant. However, the loans don't cover all of my tuition and I'm just sliding with the grants. I would like to get information on scholarships and any other types I can apply for, please. Thank you for your time and help.

I am a working mother of three. I have worked as a one-on-one teacher assistant for the last 10 years with the same student. I went back to school and received a Bachelor's in Business Management in 2005. I decided to continue my education and I am currently enrolled in a Master's online program with Grand Canyon University for Special Education. In May, my student will graduate from high school and I will have completed my classroom work. To finish my program and become a certified special education teacher I must complete 16 weeks of student teaching. Because student teaching does not provide an income, I am worried about my financial stability. I know that my calling is to be a special education teacher; however, I do not know how I am going to survive with no income for 16 weeks. A scholarship would allow me to focus on student teaching without the worry of how am I going to pay my mortgage. Thank you for your consideration. Respectfully, Gina M. Smith
